How to identify Dropwing (Trithemis) Females
- Thorax Patterns Female Dropwings have very distinct thorax patterns Most females can be identified here. Careful that this pattern can become more obscure with age. Dorsal thorax patterns mostly identifyable to a specific species
- Abdomen markings Most females have clear lateral or dorsal stripes Some may be broader than others (T dorsalis or T. stictica are examples)
- Segment 8-10 A closer inspection can reveal the correct identification. Small but noticeable differences exist between S 8, S9 or s 10
